Hydrangeas under the microscope of molecular biology
This 18-month project, financed by the CPVO and conducted in collaboration with Bundessortenamt (Germany), aims to genotype the national reference collection of Hydrangeas with nearly 1100 varieties, a large part of which is maintained at the Arboretum Gaston Allard in Angers, and to secure DUS trials using molecular marking. The project was launched in May 2022.
Using the new genotyping technology with high-throughput sequencing, this pilot project aims to test a new approach that combines neutral genetic markers and markers linked to traits of agronomic and ornamental interest to describe the collection, confirm the identity of the varieties, and guide the choice of controls for DUS testing.
