Marketing and Certification of Seeds and Propagating Material of Fruit Species

All fruit propagating material that is marketed in the EU must adhere to strict requirements.

CAC plant material

All fruit propagating material that is marketed in the EU must be of at least CAC (Conformitas Agraria Comunitatis) grade, in terms of health and varietal traceability.

Conditions for production and inspection are outlined in Directive 2014/98/UE, which is implemented in France by order of 16 December 2016, with additional legislation soon to follow.

Certified plant material

The production of certified material is a voluntary process, outlined by Directive 2014/98/UE and the French order of 16 December 2016. The organisations responsible for its implementation are the CTIFL for fruit trees and the SOC for strawberry plants.
