Revision of European regulations – assessment of varietal contributions to the sustainability of fruits and vegetables

The draft PRM (Plant Reproductive Material) regulation published by the European Commission on 5 July 2023 includes a provision for evaluating the VSCU (Value for Sustainable Cultivation and Use) for agricultural, fruit, vegetable and vine species.

Such an evaluation is not currently being carried out for fruit and vegetable species.

At extra-ordinary meetings in September, October and November, the Fruit and Vegetable CTPS Sections studied the draft regulation. They are considering operational procedures that would respect the diversity of market segments and economic operators, while responding to the sustainability issues raised by European and French public policies and taken into account in this future regulation. The mobilisation of data acquired within other frameworks, in parallel with registration (collective producer organisation, technical institute, European network, data supplied by applicants, etc.) is being studied.
