From the CTPS Protein crops Section

At its meeting on 30 October 2024, the CTPS Protein Crops Section proposed the inclusion of 13 new varieties in the Official Catalogue, including :

  • 2 varieties of winter bean
  • 1 spring faba bean variety with low vicine and convicine content
  • 3 varieties of winter peas
  • 7 spring pea varieties, including 1 on list C (conservation varieties threatened by genetic erosion)

In addition, a number of significant advances were presented:

  • Resistance to Aphanomyces euteiches: a new pea variety has demonstrated its ability to maintain yields in areas contaminated by this disease.
  • Resistance to PSbMV: a pea line has shown significant progress in terms of resistance to the Pea-Seed born Mosaic Virus. A system for assessing this resistance has been developed.
  • Chickpea: the AsCoLup project has made it possible to characterise the pathotypes of Ascochyta rabiei present in France and to establish a new resistance test protocol, applicable to all depots from 1 December 2024.
  • Protein quality project: a multi-section project aimed at biochemically characterising seeds could be submitted as part of the Knowledge 2025 AAP. One area of research would be the development of a method for assaying major amino acids in protein crops using NIRS. Preliminary results obtained using HPLC on peas have revealed varietal differences.
