From the CTPS POPAM section

The CTPS “Ornamental, Perfumed, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants – POPAM” section met on 27 September 2023 at Montboucher-sur-Jabron in the Drôme.

Hosted on the offices of ITEIPMAI (Interprofessional technical institute for perfume, medicinal, aromatic and industrial plants), this meeting provided an opportunity for very rich discussions. First, there was the current regulatory situation, with 2 proposals for European regulations on new breeding techniques and plant reproductive material. Secondly, as part of the SPAD2 plan and the “Use of Molecular Biology” action, the CaraColl Menthe project and the Harnessing molecular data to support DUS testing in ornamentals: a case-study on Hydrangea project were presented to the members of the section.

To close the meeting, the POPAM section had the honour of welcoming Excellence Végétale as a guest witness, to present the various quality (Label Rouge, Fleurs de France, etc.), origin (PGI) and environmental (Plante Bleue, HVE, etc.) certifications and their links with plant breeding.

In the afternoon, members of the POPAM section had the opportunity to visit the ITEIPMAI trials and discuss the challenges and criteria for research into perfume, aromatic and medicinal plants.

The next section will be held on Thursday 06 June 2024 in Paris.
