Blends to preserve the natural environment

Preservation mixtures, a provision governed by a 2010 European directive, are made up of seeds of non-selected species taken from the natural environment. Their aim is to preserve the natural environment.

A decree issued in January 2023 sets out the conditions for authorising the marketing of these mixtures of forage plant seeds designed to protect the environment.

This authorisation constitutes a derogation from the marketing rules, insofar as these mixtures may contain regulated forage species, meaning they are subject to compulsory certification (governed by Directive 66/401). Marketing authorisation is given for a region known as the “region of origin”.

At present, 20 preservative blends are authorised for marketing and a further 11 are proposed for authorisation.
